Job seekers for New Tashkent construction unable to connect with recruiters

On February 28, the Ministry of Employment announced around 10,000 job vacancies for the construction of New Tashkent, a city being built on a 20,000-hectare area, with salaries ranging from 8 to 15 million UZS. However, many citizens are struggling to reach the provided contact numbers, which are reportedly not working. The Ministry attributed the issue to a technical malfunction and stated that measures are being taken to resolve it.

The announcement stated that there is a demand for specialists in 38 fields, including concrete workers, welders, plumbers, bricklayers, electricians, and painters.

Workers are promised accommodation, clothing, transportation services, and three meals a day.

Non-functional short number

In order to contact, the Ministry provided the short number 1176. However, people have been reporting that they have been unable to reach this number since the announcement was made.

"I have been trying to call the announced number for four days, but it doesn’t work. Please do not deceive the people," said one citizen in a message to the Kun.uz bot.

"The short number 1176 is not working. They say ‘8 million to 15 million UZS in salary,’ please check this for accuracy. I am a welder, I specialize in ‘parovoy otopleniye’ (steam heating) and metal constructions, but I have no trust in the ministry and other agencies. Because in 2020, through a selection process, the migration agency sent 400 people to Russia with a low salary, and we entered Russia during the quarantine. Then we were laid off in groups and moved to other jobs, and it took us 6 months to clear the damage caused by the agency," said another person who contacted them.

A Kun.uz reporter checked the situation by calling the short number 1176 multiple times. After an automated response, it was stated that an operator's response would follow, but the call was disconnected when waiting for the operator. The same issue occurred when trying to call again.

"Not working due to technical malfunction" – Ministry

To comment on the situation, Kun.uz contacted the press service of the Ministry of Employment. According to officials, there was a technical malfunction with the short number, which they became aware of on the morning of March 3.

"We informed the specialists about this in the morning, and further details will be provided based on the results. This issue arose today, but we have been monitoring the situation even after the announcement.

The call center can accommodate up to 50 callers in the queue, while the 51st caller is unable to join. Measures are being taken to increase the capacity for automatic call queuing", said a representative of the Ministry.

Additionally, Kun.uz asked the organization for information on how many people had expressed interest in the job vacancies by calling 1176 up until now. The official stated that the relevant data would be shared later.
