Car production in Uzbekistan decreased by 4.4% in January

The Statistics Agency reported a 4.4% decline in car production in Uzbekistan for January. While output fell for Damas, Chery, and Kia, production of Cobalt and Onix saw notable growth.

Last month, 14,968 passenger cars were produced, which is almost 4.4% less than the same figure for 2024. Every third car manufactured was a Chevrolet Cobalt, whose production increased by more than two-thirds to 5,660 units.

Damas ranked second with 2,765 cars produced, a drop of 28.5%. Negative trends were also observed for Chery (-58.1%) and Kia (-25.2%), with 594 and 1,978 cars produced, respectively.

Meanwhile, the production of Onix amounted to 1,462 units (+74.9%), while Tracker production remained at about the same level as last year, at 1,334 cars. Haval increased its output sixfold to 373 vehicles, while BYD produced 802 electric cars.

According to Uzavtosanoat data, 22,147 vehicles were sold in Uzbekistan in January. UzAuto Motors accounted for 56.5% of total sales, followed by Khorezm Auto (21%), ADM Jizzakh (14.3%), and BYD Uzbekistan Factory (7.5%). The combined market share of the other three manufacturers did not exceed 1%.

Among brands, Chevrolet continued to lead with 17,160 vehicles sold, most of them Cobalt models. Kia sales exceeded 2,000 units, while BYD sold more than 1,660 electric cars. Chery and Haval also made it into the top five, each selling fewer than 600 units.

In terms of specific models, the top three positions were occupied by Cobalt, Damas, and Tracker. Unexpectedly, the Kia Sonet took fourth place with 1,439 units sold, surpassing Onix and Labo. The top 10 list was rounded out by three BYD models and the Haval M6.
