Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan to launch historic Silk Road train tour
Kazakhstan has announced the launch of a new railway tourism program connecting the cities of Almaty, Turkestan, and Tashkent. The inaugural journey of the "Silk Road" train tour is scheduled to depart on November 16, 2024, according to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports of Kazakhstan.

The four-day international train tour offers travelers a unique opportunity to explore the rich history and culture of ancient cities along the legendary Silk Road. Key highlights include guided visits to Turkestan's iconic sites and Tashkent's historical and modern attractions. The tour package also includes transportation, meals, guided services, and entry tickets for a seamless travel experience.
Erzhan Erkinbayev, Kazakhstan's Vice Minister of Tourism and Sports, highlighted the significance of the initiative: "Through joint efforts, we have created a unique railway tour connecting two nations. This will make travel more comfortable and accessible for our citizens and international tourists, offering an opportunity to explore the region's rich spiritual and historical heritage. It’s an important step in developing tourism and strengthening cultural ties between Kazakhstan and Uzbekistan."
The route features visits to Otrar, one of Central Asia's oldest cities and a vital trade hub during the Silk Road era. Tourists will also explore the Mausoleum of Arystan Bab, the "Azret Sultan" Historical and Cultural Reserve Museum, and the "Caravan-Sarai" tourism complex, Central Asia's largest of its kind.
In Tashkent, visitors will be treated to an immersive experience that blends the city's historical landmarks with its modern urban developments.
