Joachim Löw in talks to join Uzbekistan national team in advisory role
According to unofficial reports, German football expert Joachim Löw may be in talks to work with the Uzbekistan national football team. While the format of his potential role is still under discussion, reports suggest that it may not be as head coach.

Russian outlet Sport24, citing its own sources, reports that former Germany national team manager Joachim Löw is currently in negotiations with the Uzbekistan Football Association (UFA).
Sources say the 65-year-old coach is not being considered for the head coach position, but rather for an advisory role.
“There is communication between the parties, and Löw is open to collaboration. However, there is currently no talk of appointing him as head coach. Uzbekistan has offered him a role as an advisor to oversee the national team’s preparations for the World Cup,” said a source close to the German coach.
According to another source, opinions within the UFA are divided. Some officials believe the national team needs a high-profile specialist to prepare for the World Cup and are in favor of appointing Löw as head coach. Others support retaining Temur Kapadze, the coach who successfully led the team to qualify for the tournament. Kapadze himself is reportedly unwilling to serve as an assistant and may leave the team if Löw is appointed head coach.
Discussions between the two sides are ongoing, with the exact nature of Löw’s role still being negotiated.
The UFA has not commented on the negotiations or on media reports regarding Löw.
Joachim Löw was appointed head coach of the Germany national team in 2006 and led the squad to victory at the 2014 FIFA World Cup. He stepped down in 2021 and has remained out of coaching since.
Uzbekistan began its 2026 World Cup qualifying campaign under Slovenian manager Srečko Katanec. However, Katanec stepped down in January 2025 due to health issues. He was succeeded by Uzbek coach Temur Kapadze, who successfully continued the campaign and secured the national team’s place in the World Cup.
The 2026 FIFA World Cup will take place from 11 June to 19 July in the United States, Canada, and Mexico.
