In 2024, a total of 9,364 traffic accidents occurred across Uzbekistan. This was reported during a video conference chaired by President Shavkat Mirziyoyev, focusing on road safety and reducing traffic congestion.

These tragic incidents resulted in injuries to nearly 9,000 people.

Moreover, 2,203 people lost their lives due to these accidents, with the Samarkand, Tashkent, and Fergana regions reporting the highest number of fatalities.

The president emphasized that many pressing issues in this sector remain unresolved.

In the first six months of this year, 20 regions have seen no decline in the number of road accidents.

At the same time, many districts have shown significant progress, with a sharp drop in severe accidents. Notably, no fatalities were reported in the districts of Muynoq, Nukus, Takhtakupir, Kanlykul, Yangiyabad, Turakurgan, Akkurgan, Saykhunabad, Buloqboshi, Ulugnor, Bandikhan, as well as the cities of Ohangaron, Shirin, Nurafshon, and Khanabad.

However, the situation is worsening in the districts of Kiziltepa, Uychi, Pakhtachi, Chust, Taylok, Urgut, Shovot, Pastdargom, Yakkabog, Kushkupir, Khanka, Denov, Peshku, Beruniy, Olmazor, and Bektemir.

Officials responsible for the sector were reminded that having the lowest number of fatal accidents per 100,000 people among CIS countries should not lead to complacency.

“Unfortunately, every fourth accident results in a fatality, and on average, six people are dying every day. This should deeply concern every one of us,” the president stated.
