Uzbekistan may establish transit hub at Pakistan’s Port of Karachi

A delegation of Uzbek entrepreneurs has discussed expanding goods exports through the Port of Karachi, according to the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.

The negotiations were held with the support of Uzbekistan’s Embassy in Pakistan. The two sides explored opportunities to improve conditions and develop new mechanisms for interstate cooperation in the logistics sector.

The Uzbek delegation met with representatives of the Karachi Port Authority and local logistics companies to learn about the port’s infrastructure and the procedures required for transit. Port officials emphasized that the port is equipped to receive and handle cargo from Uzbekistan.

The Uzbek side proposed establishing a dedicated warehouse for goods originating from Uzbekistan. The initiative is expected to facilitate temporary storage and the transit of cargo, streamline access to global markets, and reduce logistical costs.

The Pakistani side expressed interest in Uzbek exports such as construction materials, textiles, leather goods, and fresh produce. The delegation was also briefed on Karachi’s container park, as well as its digital customs control and cargo inspection systems.

The strategic importance of the Port of Karachi for Uzbekistan’s trade was highlighted, given its status as Pakistan’s largest seaport and a major logistics hub in South Asia. The Chamber of Commerce and Industry announced the start of practical work on organizing the new export corridor.

Since January, a joint Uzbekistan-Pakistan International Trade Center has been operating in Karachi with the support of Diners Group. Additionally, Pakistan’s Trading Corporation has announced plans to open a transit warehouse at the Termez International Trade Center.
