New 500 MW wind power station commissioned in Bukhara
A large-scale wind power station has been commissioned in the “Oyoqogitma” desert area near a small settlement located 180 kilometers from the center of Gijduvon district, Bukhara region. The project was implemented with the support of ACWA Power Bash Wind. According to Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Energy, the facility will produce 1.8 billion kilowatt-hours of electricity annually, fully meeting the needs of both local residents and industrial enterprises.

The project, valued at $650 million, will not only ensure uninterrupted power supply to the region’s consumers but also promote environmental sustainability and reduce natural gas consumption. In particular, the wind power station is expected to help save up to 500 million cubic meters of natural gas each year.
Gijduvon, a district known for its entrepreneurial activity, has seen a steady increase in industrial enterprises in recent years. The combined energy demand from these factories, social infrastructure, and residential users currently stands at 300 megawatts. Alternative energy sources are therefore seen as critical in meeting this growing demand. The new wind power plant has a planned capacity of 500 megawatts, more than enough to cover local consumption and allow for further industrial expansion.
“This major project was no easy feat,” says R. Avezov, a respected local labor veteran. “Over the past several months, construction and installation work was carried out on more than 280 hectares of desert land. Two concrete production lines were established, and 79 modern wind turbines were installed. More than 600 specialists worked in the harsh desert environment to bring this vision to life.”
