Kashkadarya tax official and accomplice nabbed with $3,000 bribes
A deputy head of the tax inspection office in Kamashi district, Kashkadarya region, and a local resident have been detained on bribery charges in connection with the attempted reopening of a bankrupt brick factory. Each was allegedly caught red-handed receiving $3,000, according to the State Security Service (SSS) of Uzbekistan.

The SSS reports that the official misconduct took place in Kashkadarya’s Kamashi district.
According to the agency, a 44-year-old man with a prior conviction attempted to lift a state-imposed restriction on a bankrupt brick factory, which had accumulated unpaid tax debts totaling 360 million UZS. He reportedly sought to resolve the issue through his connections with government officials.
In exchange for facilitating the resumption of the factory’s operations, the man demanded $4,000 from the factory's management.
He was apprehended during a sting operation while accepting an advance payment of $3,000.
The operation was extended to include the deputy head of the Kamashi district tax inspection office, who was also caught receiving $3,000 in bribes, with material evidence secured at the scene.
Criminal proceedings have been initiated against both individuals, and an investigation is currently underway.
