School fight in Samarkand ends in tragedy: One student dead, another hospitalized
A violent altercation broke out between senior students of two schools in Samarkand’s Pakhtachi district, resulting in the death of a student who was the only son in his family. Another student was hospitalized, while three students allegedly involved in the beating have been taken into custody.

According to a Kun.uz source, the incident took place on May 14. Two 11th-grade students from School No. 12 in Pakhtachi district had traveled approximately 10 kilometers to the Yobu neighborhood for private tutoring. There, a conflict reportedly arose between them and three students from School No. 1 in the same district.
As a result of the fight, one of the students, identified as Umidjon, died at the scene. His classmate was seriously injured and admitted to the Pakhtachi District Central Hospital. The three students from School No. 1 who allegedly carried out the attack were detained on May 15, and a preventive measure in the form of custody was imposed.
A criminal case has been initiated by the Pakhtachi District Police Department under Article 104, Part 3, Paragraph “d” of the Criminal Code — intentional infliction of grievous bodily harm resulting in death.
It has been reported that the deceased student was the only son in his family, and his mother worked as a janitor at the same school he attended. The condition of the hospitalized student remains unknown.
The crime was discussed publicly at School No. 1 with the participation of local residents. Rahmat Mamatov, the head of the Samarkand Regional Department of Internal Affairs, was also present, according to a statement from the department’s press service.
“In the Mojar neighborhood of Pakhtachi district, a moment of rage brought tragedy upon a family. Minors, overwhelmed by anger, allowed a dispute to escalate into violence. As a result, a young life was lost,” the statement read.
It was noted during the meeting that the local neighborhood council had failed in its responsibilities. Instructions were given to improve cooperation and organization moving forward.
Kun.uz contacted Bakhtigul Qarshiyeva, the press secretary for the Samarkand Regional Department of Preschool and School Education. She stated that she did not yet have complete information about the incident but would provide details to the editorial team once available.
