Heads of education, emergency, customs, and ecology departments detained for corruption

The heads of the Preschool and School Education Department, a customs post inspector, and the head of the Ecology and Environmental Protection Department were detained by the State Security Service while accepting bribes.

The State Security Service (SSS) has reported on a series of sting operations in which several officials were caught red-handed while receiving bribes.

In particular, the head of the Preschool and School Education Department in one of Tashkent’s districts was apprehended in their office while receiving $3,000 in exchange for appointing a history teacher as the director of a secondary school.

During a separate operation in Tashkent region, an inspector from the "Yangiyul" customs post was caught while accepting $2,700 through a third party. In return, the official promised to allow train wagons loaded with wheat imported from Kazakhstan to pass customs inspection and clearance without any issues.

Furthermore, in Samarkand region, the head of the Emergency Department of Jomboy district was detained while accepting a $200 bribe. He used his official position to offer a favorable fire safety compliance assessment for a citizen planning to open a private preschool at their residence and promised further assistance.

Additionally, the head of the Ecology, Environmental Protection and Climate Change Department in Pakhtachi district, Samarkand region, was apprehended while accepting $2,000. The bribe was given in exchange for providing an ecological assessment for a local enterprise, granting permission to extract gravel from the Nakvoysay area of Qarnab village, and offering future guidance.

Criminal cases have been opened against all of the detained officials under Article 210 of the Criminal Code (taking bribes). Preventive detention measures have been applied, and investigative procedures are ongoing.
