On April 19, Gofurjon Abdurahmonov, who had served as the mayor of Andijan city since June 2022, was summoned to the regional administration and submitted his resignation. He has been replaced by Elyorbek Karimov, who previously held the position of governor of Izboskan district.

Elyorbek Karimov, who had been serving as governor of Izboskan district, has now been appointed mayor of Andijan city, according to a statement from the regional administration’s press service.
Elyorbek Karimov was born in 1986 in the Izboskan district. He graduated from the Andijan Institute of Agriculture in 2008.
Throughout his career, he has held various responsible positions in the treasury and financial system at both district and regional levels. He has also served as the first deputy governor of Izboskan district, the first deputy head of the regional department of investments, industry, and trade, and head of the Andijan regional branch of the Chamber of Commerce and Industry of Uzbekistan.
Since December 2023, Elyorbek Karimov had been serving as the governor of Izboskan district.
As mentioned earlier, Gofurjon Abdurahmonov was summoned to the regional administration on April 19 and submitted a resignation letter. The reasons for his dismissal have not been officially disclosed.
However, Daryo.uz cited sources suggesting that Abdurahmonov’s removal might be linked to an incident in which the head of Andijan city’s Department for Poverty Reduction and Employment was reportedly caught consuming psychotropic substances in his office during working hours.
