Uzbekistan plans to boost pharmaceutical exports to Afghanistan, targeting $50M by year-end

Afghanistan is ready to simplify the process of bringing Uzbek pharmaceutical products to its domestic market, the Uzbek Chamber of Commerce and Industry reported.
According to the Chamber, the issue was discussed during a meeting between a delegation led by Chairman Davron Vakhabov and Afghan Minister of Public Health, Mawlawi Noor Jalal Jalali.
It was emphasized that Uzbek pharmaceutical companies have every reason to expect that exports to the Afghan market will exceed $50 million by the end of 2025.
Jalali also proposed training young Afghan dental specialists in Termiz, expanding dental care services for the population, and opening nearly 20 branch clinics.
In addition, Jalali expressed support for reducing the time required for drug registration from six months to one month, and for introducing a simplified one-time import authorization for medicines brought into Afghanistan.
In February, Afghanistan’s Acting Deputy Prime Minister Abdul Ghani Baradar met with Uzbek Prime Minister Abdulla Aripov, during which agreements were reached to reduce customs duties on 10 products, attract investments into Uzbekistan’s gas extraction and cement production sectors, and cut the cost of an electricity transmission line by $30 million.
