Powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake hits Myanmar

A strong earthquake has hit Myanmar, with magnitudes of 7.7 and later 6.4, according to the U.S. Geological Survey.

On Friday afternoon, a powerful 7.7-magnitude earthquake hit central Myanmar.

According to CNN, approximately 12 minutes after the first tremor, another earthquake with a magnitude of 6.4 occurred in the region.

A resident of Yangon, Myanmar’s largest city, who wished to remain anonymous, told the media: "We felt the earthquake for about a minute and then ran out of the building. We saw other people rushing out of buildings as well. It was very sudden and very strong."

A journalist from the publication reported that the tremors were felt even in Bangkok, the capital of Thailand.

Sky News reported that following the earthquake, hundreds of people evacuated buildings in Bangkok, and many structures were cleared as a precaution.

So far, no official report has been released on the number of victims.
