On March 7, a video surfaced on social media featuring the employee from the Yashnabad district public works service. She recounted how she had received gifts at the ceremony, only to have them snatched from her hands on her way out by someone accusing her of theft.
"We were invited to the event and given gifts. But as we were leaving, someone suddenly grabbed them from me, saying, 'Why did you steal this?' But I didn’t steal anything. I didn’t even need these gifts," she said.
The video ignited strong public condemnation, with social media users criticizing the incident. In an effort to support the woman and rectify the situation, bloggers and activists visited her, bringing valuable gifts, money, and food supplies.
Deputy governor of Tashkent Shakhnoza Sultanova, Yashnabad district governor Bakhtiyor Rakhmonkulov, and other officials also met with her.
According to the district administration’s press service, the governor assured her that those responsible would be identified and held accountable.
Later, the woman recorded another video expressing her gratitude to everyone who had reached out:
"I never expected my video to spread so quickly on social media. Thank you! Yesterday was very difficult for me, but today, so many people have come to support, cheer, and comfort me," she said.
