New industrial zones to be established in Syrdarya, creating 20,000 jobs and aiming for $5 billion in investment

Eight industrial zones are set to be established across Syrdarya’s districts, aiming to attract $5 billion in investments as part of a broader strategy to drive economic growth, create jobs, and strengthen the region’s development. President Shavkat Mirziyoyev highlighted these initiatives during a recent meeting.

Progress in recent years was noted in sectors such as construction and energy, as well as the "Saykhunabad experience" in supporting small businesses and subsidiary farms. At the same time, the poverty rate in the region exceeds 11%, and the number of unemployed people stands at 22,000.

It is planned to establish industrial zones in eight districts with a total area of approximately 900 hectares. This initiative is expected to create more than 20,000 jobs.

The region’s role in transport infrastructure was also highlighted. Along the M-39, M-34, A-373, and A-376 highways, up to 500,000 square meters of trade and service areas are expected to be developed, employing 50,000 people.

In the agricultural sector, there is potential for growing cotton, fruit and vegetable crops, and melons. Processing enterprises and exporters will be assigned to subsidiary farms, field outskirts, and areas along canals spanning 38,000 hectares.

The cultivation of potatoes, onions, and berries will be expanded. Additionally, on 25,000 hectares of land across eight districts, rice production will be developed, with rice-growing farms able to export half of their harvest.

Furthermore, a renovation program is proposed for the region, covering more than 1,000 houses. Modern residential complexes with 15,000 apartments will be built in their place, incorporating experience from Margilan and the Dustlik district.

Developers will be provided with tax and customs benefits to ensure the affordability of new housing. The president approved initiatives to expand the territories of Gulistan and Shirin.

A total of $100 million will be allocated for the modernization of roads, power grids, housing, and social infrastructure. By July 1, work on providing Gulistan with drinking water must be completed.

By the end of the year, $2 billion in investments is expected to be attracted to the region, with exports increasing to $500 million. According to estimates, the implementation of these projects will create more than 16,000 jobs and reduce the poverty rate to 7.4%.
