Uzbekistan’s consulate in Istanbul warns compatriots against human smuggling schemes
Criminal groups are attempting to recruit Uzbek citizens as intermediaries for smuggling illegal migrants to Greece by sea, offering them large sums of money.

According to the Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul, in recent times, certain criminal organizations have been promising Uzbek nationals significant financial rewards to persuade them to assist in the illegal transportation of migrants to the European Union, particularly to Greece, via maritime routes.
Currently, individuals involved in such illegal activities are being prosecuted under Turkish law and are facing long-term imprisonment.
Consequences of facilitating illegal migration:
- Up to 10 years in prison
- Hefty fines and deportation
- Loss of the right to reside and work in Türkiye
- Entry bans to Turkey and European countries
The Consulate General of Uzbekistan in Istanbul strongly urges citizens not to trust illegal offers and recommendations.
