Türkiye abolishes conditional entry policy for foreign nationals; Uzbekistan’s consulate in Istanbul issues alert for compatriots

According to the report, this procedure was officially terminated by Türkiye’s Directorate General of Migration Management starting February 2025. Unofficial data suggests that since the beginning of February, over 150 foreign nationals encountered issues at airports due to being unaware of these new regulations.

What has changed?

Previously, foreign nationals who had overstayed their legal residency period in Türkiye or received a rejection for their residence permit (ikamet izni) application could re-enter the country via conditional entry (şartlı giriş). Upon re-entry, they had the option to submit a new application within 10 days. This option has now been completely revoked.

Under the new regulations, individuals who failed to leave on time or had their residence permit applications rejected can no longer immediately return to Türkiye.

Depending on nationality, the ban on re-entry into Türkiye can now range from 3 to 6 months.

In light of these changes, the Consulate General urged citizens of Uzbekistan planning to travel to Türkiye to take this update into account.

“Before traveling to Türkiye, familiarize yourself with the country’s migration regulations and ensure there are no issues with your documents,” the Consulate General emphasized in a statement.

The Consulate General also reminded individuals whose legal residency period has expired or whose residence permit application has been denied to leave Türkiye in compliance with the law. Failure to adhere to these regulations may result in restrictions on returning to Turkey in the future.
