Violence victims will be able to divorce without a reconciliation period
Divorce cases involving victims of violence are expected to no longer require a reconciliation period in Uzbekistan. This change was discussed during a meeting of the Senate’s Committee on Youth, Women, Culture, and Sports on February 11.

The meeting discussed a draft law titled "Amendments and Additions to Certain Legislative Acts to Improve the Family and Women’s Support System." The proposed law aims to further strengthen the protection of the rights of victims of domestic violence and to prevent the recurrence of such incidents.
The draft law stipulates that in cases of divorce, the court will not set a reconciliation period if the person seeking divorce is a victim of domestic violence.
Delays in resolving divorce cases have, in some instances, led to tragic outcomes such as women committing suicide or suffering untimely deaths.
The introduction of this provision is expected to prevent serious crimes in families where there is ongoing pressure and violence. The adoption of this law will further strengthen women's rights and help ensure that housing matters are legally addressed.
At the conclusion of the meeting, the relevant decision was adopted by the committee.
