Agreement for operation of the "Hairatan–Mazar-i-Sharif" railway renewed
Uzbekistan and Afghanistan have extended the contract signed in February 2023 for the operation of the "Hairatan–Mazar-i-Sharif" railway, according to the press service of Uzbekistan’s Ministry of Transport.

A meeting with a delegation from Afghanistan, led by the Deputy Minister of Public Works for Railway Affairs, Mohammad Ishaq Sahibzada, was held in Tashkent from January 21 to 23. During the meeting with Uzbekistan’s Minister of Transport, Ilkhom Makhkamov, the parties exchanged views on accelerating the implementation of the Trans-Afghan Railway construction project and agreed to jointly organize further work.
To further strengthen active cooperation between the railway administrations of the two countries, an agreement was reached to extend the contract for the operation and maintenance of the "Hairatan–Mazar-i-Sharif" railway, the statement said.
Meanwhile, Sogdiana Trans LLC will remain the operator responsible for servicing the railway line.
In February 2023, an agreement for a two-year extension of the operation of the "Hairatan–Mazar-i-Sharif" railway was signed between Afghanistan's Railway Administration and Sogdiana Trans LLC.
