Judge revises verdict: Driver sentenced to 3 years for traffic violation resulting in deaths
The driver of a Cobalt car involved in a tragic accident that killed two children and injured three others has been sentenced to three years in prison. The initial verdict, issued by Judge Ulugbek Ibragimov of the Yangiyul District Court, imposed a corrective punishment. However, this decision was overturned after a cassation appeal by the Deputy Prosecutor of the Tashkent region.

Initially, the driver was released from custody, with the court emphasizing his status as a “well-educated, employed young man.” Notably, in a separate case just a week later, the same judge sentenced another driver, who caused one death, to two years in prison. This second individual was described as having "secondary-specialized education and being unemployed."
Both cases were overseen by Judge Ulugbek Ibragimov, as reported by Kun.uz. Following these decisions, the Prosecutor of the Tashkent Region filed a cassation appeal in the case involving Rustamjon Mirzakhatamov, the Cobalt driver responsible for the deaths of two children.
Aziz Obidov, head of the press service of the Supreme Court, stated that the judicial panel on criminal cases of the Tashkent Regional Court reviewed the cassation appeal. The initial verdict from November 11, 2024, was annulled, and a new ruling was issued.
Mirzakhatamov was found guilty under Article 266, Part 3(a) of the Criminal Code for violating traffic safety rules, leading to severe consequences. He was sentenced to three years in a penal colony and banned from driving for three years.
The convict will serve his sentence as per the updated ruling.
