Uzbekistan may start exporting surplus electricity to Europe
Uzbekistan will be able to export excess electricity to Europe from 2030 if a joint project with Kazakhstan and Azerbaijan to lay cable under the Caspian Sea is implemented.

Report, in a conversation with Uzbek Energy Minister Jurabek Mirzamakhmudov, found that the exact volume of exports will depend on the capacity of the electricity transmission system and the demand of European consumers.
"By the end of this year, we will bring the total power from renewable sources to more than 4 GW. By 2030, this volume will exceed 20 GW, of which 2 to 5 GW will be exported to Europe," he said.
The minister explained that electricity from Uzbekistan will go through Kazakhstan through the Common Energy System of Central Asia, further along a deep-sea cable under the Caspian Sea to Azerbaijan, from there to Georgia and further along a cable under the Black Sea to Romania, Hungary and Bulgaria.
Kun.uz previously reported that four countries in the Balkans had plunged into blackouts, and power supply had disappeared almost everywhere in Bosnia and Herzegovina, Montenegro, Albania, and partly in Croatia.
